Who am I?
Hey, I'm Miguel! I'm a Product Designer based in Gothenburg, Sweden originally hailing from the Great White North; Toronto, Ontario to be exact.
I have been working as Designer for a decade in a variety of different industries— from non-profit to e-commerce and finance. I started my career as a Graphic Designer which allowed me to develop a strong understanding of visual design principals. I then transitioned to Product Design when I discovered I could merge my visual design skills with solving tangible problems to deliver unique and thoughtful expereinces.
Outside of work I enjoy travelling to warm and sunny destinations (even though I have chosen to live in two cold countries), cooking/enjoying a good meal, hanging out with my dog Frankie, and staying active in a variety of different ways— from hiking, cycling and going to the gym. I also like to dabble in different types of creative outlets like animation and 3D design.
Design Philospy
I believe design is just one facet of what makes a great experience and product, and that designer's do not hold all the answers. As a designer it is important to understand the full impact of what you are designing for and that means working cross-functionally to piece together the bigger picture.
I am also a strong advocate for implementing and utilizing research whenever possible, as the closer we are to our users and try to understand their needs and problems, the better we can help them.
Fun Fact
During the pandemic, my friend Shiela and I launched a small bakery in Toronto that focused on making creative and aesthetically beautiful pies. We operated on a drop model, where we would release a certain number of pies for pre-order every week. Our first few drops sold out within seconds and we got a bit of media buzz around our venture.
